Membership & Library Cards
Membership in Eufaula Carnegie Library is signified by ownership of a valid library card. A patron must have a valid library card in order to check out materials or to use library computers.
Four types of library cards are issued by the library:
(1). Adult Library Card. This card is issued to residents of Barbour or Quitman counties who are age 17 or older and can provide a proof of residence, such as a valid driver's license with a Barbour or Quitman County address; an official non-driver's picture ID; or a recent (within last three months) utility bill with address. The Adult Library Card is free and valid for a period of four years.
(2). Juvenile Library Card. This card is issued to residents of Barbour or Quitman counties who are age 5 through 16, and whose parent or legal guardian is eligible for a library card and can provide a proof of residence. The Juvenile Library Card is free and valid for a period of four years.
(3). Temporary Resident's Card. This card is issued to any individual who is a temporary resident of Barbour or Quitman counties. A temporary resident is one who resides in the area for less than nine consecutive months per year. The Temporary Resident's Card is free and valid for a period of one year.
(4). Paid Membership Library Card. This card is issued to anyone who resides outside Barbour or Quitman counties and/or does not fulfill any of the requirements for free membership in the library. This card is issued at a charge of $10 per year per individual, and the card is valid for a period of one year.
The library maintains four Internet-accessible computers in the adult services area of the library, and four Internet-accessible computers in the youth services area of the library;
Internet and Computer Rules:
Patrons seeking to use computers must present a valid Eufaula Carnegie library card. Staff will scan the card to to ensure that the patron is registered in our system.
Patrons must use their own library cards in order to use the library's computers.
If a patron has any overdue fines, fees, or overdue materials on his card, he will be blocked from using a computer by the library's LibShield software.
Patrons are limited to two hours (120 minutes) of computer use per day.
Patrons may print copies at a cost of 25 cents per page for black and white, and 50 cents per page for color.
The library is a Wi-Fi hotspot, offering free Internet access to users of laptops, notebooks, tablets, and other mobile devices.
Safe Child Policy
The library encourages the use of our resources and services by children. However, library staff are not responsible for the care or supervision of children left in the library, nor are staff responsible for the safety of children left alone in the library who may be targeted by predators. It is the responsibility of the child's parent or adult caregiver to supervise the child's activities in the library, to ensure the child's safety at all times, and to make sure the child's actions do not disrupt library services or other patrons' ability to use them.
Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied in the library at all times by a parent or other adult who is responsible for the child. In this context, "other adult" is an individual age 17 or older with direct responsibility for the child, and "accompanied by" means that the child must be in the immediate vicinity of and within eyesight of the parent or other adult at all times.
Children age 10 and older may use the library unattended as long as their conduct is acceptable in the library setting. Unattended children will be expected to display appropriate behavior and to not disrupt library services or other patrons' ability to use them.
Staff will not provide transportation to children who have been left at the library at closing. Instead, staff will contact the Eufaula Police Department to report that a child has been left at the library and will wait until police arrive to claim the child.
