Borrowing Privileges and Circulation Rules

 

There is no fee for obtaining your library card.
To get a card, you must provide a photo ID and current home address verification.  Acceptable forms if ID & address verification include ONE of the following.

  • Driver’s License
  • Checkbook
  • Current utility bill
  • Letter with a current postmark.


Sate or Federally issued ID cardLibrary cards are issued to children, under the age of 16, if: A parent/legal guardian accompanies the child to sign the application card And the parent/legal guardian shows a positive ID with their current permanent home address. The parent/legal guardian understands they are to supervise the child’s use of library materials.Check out is limited to 2 books per card. 


All items are due back in 2 weeks.
Items can be renewed by visiting the library or calling the library during business hours.

To use Internet services at the library, you will need a library card.  You will also be asked to read and sign an Internet Policy. You must have your card with you when checking out materials, picking up reserved materials, or using the Internet.
If items are returned late, a fee of $.10 per day will be charged.

Replacement fees will be charged for lost items, or items returned in damaged condition.
A $2.00 replacement fee will be charged if your card is lost or stolen.

When you sign up for a library card, you sign a statement agreeing to the following:


I accept responsibility for all items checked out on my card.
I understand there is a charged for items returned late, lost and damaged items.
The information provided is accurate and I accept the responsibility to keep my address, phone, and email information current so that I will receive library notices in a timely manner. If my card is missing or stolen, I will report it immediately to minimize library materials being checked out on my stolen card.
I understand that my library privileges (including Internet access) can besuspended if fines on my card exceed $5.00.

Borrower Responsibilities

  • Return borrowed materials by due date.
  • Protect materials from damage or loss.
  • Pay for damaged or lost materials.
  • Notify library of any name, address or phone changes.
  • Notify library immediately if card is lost or stolen.

 Privileges can be suspended for:

  • Failure to return library materials.
  • Failure to pay fines/ fees
  • Continuous abuse of library rules.
  • Falsification of eligibility requirements
  • Abusive, destructive or deviant behavior

Charges, Fines, & Fees:
Replacement library card -- $2.00
Print outs -- 25¢ black & white, 50¢ color
Damaged and/ or Lost items -- Cost of the item

 

Hobson City Public Library's Internet Policy

Patrons can use the computer for 30 minutes.  If no other patrons are waiting to use the computers the time limit will be extended.

Hobson City Public Library's Computer workstations are intended to provide access to valuable information resources. Users of these Library computers are expected to use the Internet as an educational resource.
The Internet is a global entity with a wide variety of content, as such the Internet is an unregulated. The library does not accept responsibility for the Internet's content. The library is not responsible for materials on the Internet which some users may find objectionable. Therefore, library patrons should use their best judgment when using the Internet, realizing that accuracy, completeness, and currency vary widely.


The Library is not responsible for any online breakdowns by the Internet provider(s) nor for any virus downloaded by any user. The Hobson City Public Library assumes no responsibility for any direct or indirect damage related to the use of the information accessible through the library's Internet computers.


In order to access the library’s Internet workstations, you must have a library card.
Parents will need to sign a permission slip for minors to access the Internet at the Hobson City Public Library.Parents and guardians are responsible for providing guidance and monitoring their children's use of all library resources including the Internet. According to federal law, when using library Internet workstations, minors are prohibited from accessing materials which are considered to be "harmful to minors". Hobson City Public Library uses an internet filter. Users of the workstations should be aware that no device or software will block every inappropriate site, and sites may be blocked that should not be. The library does not accept responsibilityfor these incidents while patrons are using the computers.
All Internet users should avoid disclosing personal information over the Internet to preserve their own personal safety. Minors should use caution in their use of electronic mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communications, as these forms of communication can expose minors to dangerous situations.Minors should never disclose personal information, such as name, school, address, and telephone number to strangers on the Internet. Library Internet users are prohibited by law from disclosing, using, or disseminating personal information about minors without written authorization of the parent or legal guardian of the minors involve.

Use of the Internet workstations is for LEGAL purposes only. Internet users may not use the library's computers to display obscene materials or child pornography as determined by State and Federal Law. Other illegal activities which are also prohibited include but are not limited to:

  • software piracy
  • degrading or disrupting equipment or system performance
  • gaining unauthorized access to resources or entities
  • invading the privacy of individuals
  • engaging in any activity that is deliberately offensive or creates an
  • intimidating or hostile environment
  • violation of copyright or licensing agreements

U.S. copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code) prohibits the unauthorized reproduction or distribution of copyrighted materials, except as permitted by the principles of "fair use." Users may not copy or distribute electronic materials (including electronic mail, text, images, programs, or data) without the explicit permission of the copyright holder. Any responsibility for any consequences of copyright infringement lies with the user; the library expressly disclaims any liability or responsibility resulting from such use.
