Loan Period – All residents of Hartford and the surrounding area may obtain a library card by completing a registration form and providing proof of residence through current ID with the correct address or an official document with the resident’s name and address. Parents must register children under the age of 14. Books and audio books may be checked out for two weeks and may be renewed either in person or over the phone. Movies may be checked out for two days and cannot be renewed. Magazines may be checked out for one week.
Limits – Generally, check outs are limited as follows:
Books – 5 per patron
Movies – 2 per patron
Magazines – 5 per patron
Limits may be adjusted for certain situations but patrons are encouraged to only check out what can be read or viewed within the loan period.
Fines – Patrons are charged $.10 per day per book for overdue books. Patrons are charged $1.00 per day per item for overdue magazines and movies. The maximum fine is $3.00 per items. Notices are mailed to alert patrons of overdue material. Fines must be paid before other material can be checked out. Patrons are responsible for the cost of lost or damaged material.
Reserves – Patrons may reserve material and will be notified when the material is available. Reserved items will be held for two days after notification. Movies may not be placed on reserve.
Inter-Library Loans – Patrons may request material from another library. Patrons are responsible for the cost of the postage to return items to the lending library.
Computer Usage – All patron computers are equipped with filters in compliance with the Child Internet Protection Act. Computers are available for patron use. Computer use is limited to 2 hours daily per patron. Patrons are subject to one hour time limits if others are waiting to use a computer. Patrons playing games or using social network sites are subject to thirty minute time limits. Computer use policies and printout charges are posted on each computer. Patrons agree to these policies and charges before they can log on to a computer.
